We're excited to announce the launch of our new product that solves a critical blind spot in AI optimization: Query Fanouts.

What It Is

When users interact with Answer Engines like Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini, they rarely see what's happening under the hood. These models often transform a single user prompt into multiple high-intent search queries to gather information and provide comprehensive answers. We call this “query fanout.“

Our product makes this invisible process visible. Simply for any prompts that our clients are tracking, and we show you exactly what search queries an Answer Engine would generate to answer it: the actual, high-intent queries that drive information retrieval.

Why It Matters

Here's the paradigm shift: if you're creating content in 2025, you should be optimizing for query fanouts.

Think about it. When someone asks an Answer Engine “What's the best project management tool for remote teams?“, the model might fan out into queries like:

  • “project management software remote teams 2025“
  • “asynchronous collaboration tools comparison“
  • “remote team productivity platforms reviews“

Your content might rank well for the original question, but if it doesn't answer the fanout queries, the ones the Answer Engine actually uses to research, you're invisible to AI-mediated search.

We’ve already begun analyzing this data at scale. As part of the millions of prompts we send to Answer Engines every day on behalf of our customers, we also capture the resulting query fanouts. By comparing these fanouts to the original prompts, we identify the extra words ChatGPT adds on its own, revealing how it refines intent before retrieving information. Some of the most common additions include “best“, “top“, “reviews“, and “2025“. Through this process, we’re beginning to uncover a first look into how AI interprets and prioritizes user prompts.
