What is the AEO Content Score
The AEO Content Score is a new metric that lets you understand exactly how well your content is positioned for AEO. Our team spent months building a proprietary machine learning model, trained on millions of top-cited pages in our dataset, to predict the likelihood of your content becoming a top-cited page in AI search.
The score now powers the entire Content Optimization feature, giving you real-time visibility into how optimized your content is today, with data-backed recommendations for improvement.
How the underlying model works
At the core of Profound's AEO Content Score is a predictive machine learning model trained to understand what makes content likely to be cited by AI systems. We trained it using millions of top-cited pages in our database, analyzing the common features that drive visibility in AI-generated answers.
When you upload content into Content Optimization, we evaluate it against the model's learned patterns, analyzing hundreds of signals, such as:
- Semantic alignment between the page’s core content and prompts you want to optimize
- Structured data usage, where certain JSON schemas (like FAQ) are favored over generic article schemas
- Content structure indicators such as heading density, paragraph balance, and title length
- Query fanout patterns where you can exploit how LLMs often inject certain words into their web search query
- Recency and freshness, ensuring the content remains relevant to fast-evolving AI systems
Our evaluation shows statistically significant performance across accuracy and interpretability metrics. Importantly, the patterns the model identifies align perfectly with real-world findings from our AI strategists and data scientists, validating months of deep research.

The AEO Content Score is available today for all Profound customers within the Content Optimization workflow. Over the coming months, we'll continue refining the model, supporting CMS integrations for direct republishing, and embedding the score throughout other parts of the platform.
