It’s tempting to think you can just monitor your AI visibility manually. Go to ChatGPT/Gemini/Claude, etc., search for prompts your customers might use, and see if your brand shows up. Sounds simple enough, right? But that doesn’t work.
For starters, LLM tools don’t give out the same answer every time to every user. The output a prompt generates depends on various factors—like timing, user behavior, how a prompt is phrased, and more.
Secondly, this approach doesn’t give you a zoomed-out, large-scale answer to how your brand’s AI visibility is changing over time. You can’t spot patterns and trends or monitor which actions moved the needle. This means you’ll also be unable to report your work to stakeholders accurately.
And lastly, a big problem with manually checking AI visibility is scaling it. How many prompts can you realistically track in a day across LLMs? 50? 100? - Large LLM coverage: ChatGPT might be the most popular AI tool on the block, but it’s certainly not the only one your audience is using. Look for wide LLM coverage in AI visibility providers. The more AI tools they cover, the more accurately you can track your overall AI visibility.
- Deep reporting and ability to slice and dice the data: It’s not enough to just monitor how many times your brand appears in AI search results. You also need to understand the sentiment around your brand, which prompts are most commonly used, which pages on your site are cited the most, and how your share of voice is fluctuating. Look for AI visibility providers that provide robust reporting without the overwhelm—you should also be able to filter the data according to LLM, competitors, prompts, etc.

Athena may be the right choice for small marketing agencies (see our list of best ai visibility tools for agencies) looking to improve AI visibility for their clients and get referral leads in the process.
While you can certainly track relevant prompts in Athena, the tool doesn’t show corresponding volume for each prompt. It’s like getting a list of keywords without the keyword volume—you just don’t know which prompt is impactful enough to prioritize.
That said, prompt tracking (albeit with the lack of prompt volume) is pretty decent in the tool. You can see brand mentions and citations of the prompts you’re tracking and benchmark them against competitors. It’s easy to spot which URLs on your site drive the most AI traffic.
When it comes to implementation, Athena can help, but don’t expect any miracles. The content briefs (generated by the Action Center) are solid, but the content itself is lackluster. It can be inaccurate and plagiarized, too, so do your due diligence before publishing.
The recommendations are also good, but half-baked. Athena will tell you which subreddits your brand should be a part of, for example. But that’s about it—there are no details on the subreddit’s guidelines.

Peec AI is one of the most affordable AI visibility tools in the market right now. It’s the right pick if you’re a small team looking to test the waters with AEO.
Like with Athena, you can track prompts, but you don’t get prompt volume details to determine the popularity of a query. There is a volume column in the tool—it shows the interest in a prompt on a scale of one to five. But that doesn’t tell you anything about the actual volume of a prompt.
The other data on your visibility is also good, but basic. If you want to analyze your AI visibility beyond the surface, Peec’s not there yet. For instance, you can see how your brand compares to competitors in terms of visibility, sentiment, and positioning. But you can’t compare your visibility rankings across topics and prompts.
Another big flaw of Peec AI is that it only gives you the data. There are no recommendations or AI-optimized content. If you just need AI visibility metrics and can do the strategic bit on your own (which might be more suitable for smaller brands), Peec AI might be enough.
But you’ll outgrow the tool as soon as you want more insight into prompt volume, strategic recommendations to improve visibility, or help in running content campaigns.

The primary benefit is that you get all your SEO and AEO data combined in one software instead of your strategy being fragmented in multiple tools. The AIO tool is an enterprise-grade software—global brands can use it to analyze their AI visibility across regions, personas, and products.
The tool also has a large prompt database (over 200M), and the workflow is quite similar to SERP—so there’s not going to be a lot of learning curve.
One thing to remember is the AEO tool here is built on the back of the legacy SEO tool. This might mean the data isn’t as strong as standalone AI visibility tools and new features are slow to ship. Plus, Adobe has also recently acquired Semrush, which might trigger more changes, especially in the pricing.
When I tested Semrush’s AI visibility toolkit, the cons were a lack of actionable recommendations, surface-level brand performance reports, and costs adding up fast due to add-ons.

The tool uses first-party data, crawl data, and Google Console metrics to show which pages on your site aren’t getting cited by AI tools.
The best part is you can deploy fixes on your whole site (like redirect chains, internal linking, etc.) without requiring developer assistance. Botify is made for sites with over a thousand pages—it can handle that scale.
The con is the tool might be overkill for every other brand that doesn’t have thousands of pages. Plus, it might not be as helpful in improving AI visibility for non-branded prompts as standalone tools. Botify is designed for fixing technical issues that prevent bots from crawling your site, not for brands looking to gauge AI sentiment.
Choose Botify if:

Think of Scrunch like the Botify for small sites. Scrunch AXP can help you identify AI bot traffic, delete code that doesn’t contribute to AI optimization, and restructure your site pages—all without coding. It’s the small-scale version of Botify’s technical capabilities.
Coming to AI visibility capabilities, Scrunch is good, but basic. You’ll likely outgrow it as your AEO strategy expands. For example, you can see AI search trends, but it’s quite limited. There’s a chance the trends Scrunch has spotted might not even be relevant for your brand. The recommendations are also confusing and not very actionable.
My gripe with the tool is its features are beginner-friendly and designed for smaller sites. You can only audit one URL at a time, for example. But the pricing is a lot for the value. It’s much better to pay a little more for a tool like Profound (Growth plan) and get better agent analytics, AI visibility metrics, and content optimization & generation workflows.
Choose Scrunch if:

AirOps is an AI visibility provider for sites that have large content libraries that need to be AI-optimized. You can create AI-powered automated workflows—like updating your published content based on internal data—and implement them at scale using Grids.
Grids are the real power move in this tool—it allows you to implement your workflows on hundreds of URLs at the same time. This is helpful for brands stuck in the constant refresh cycle because you can auto-update content to a large extent.
AirOps also creates decent AI-generated content—you can feed it your brand guidelines and it’ll write or refresh content following those to a T. My advice would be to provide as detailed instructions as possible to get a better brand output.
I still wouldn’t say you can use AirOps without human intervention, but the time required to edit and polish will be significantly less.
Coming to the AI visibility data, AirOps doesn’t ace it as much as the other tools on this list. For example, Profound can tell you which product features exactly are construed positively or negatively. AirOps provides a more surface-level insight into your brand sentiment.
Similarly, the citations and prompt data depth are also lacking in AirOps. You can’t see how popular a prompt is or track citations for specific pages on your site. There’s a good chance AirOps might add these features in the future, but right now, it’s much more suited for content creation and refresh at scale.
Another thing to remember is it takes some time to get the hang of the tool. You can’t hit the ground running right after you sign up. It takes a while to set up the workflows, implement the Grids, and get the ROI from the tool.
Choose AirOps if:

SE Visible is part of the SE Ranking ecosystem—one is for AEO and the other is for SEO. If you’ve already been using SE Ranking, the AI Search is a $71.20/month add-on.
Right now, SE Visible’s data is not as in-depth as some of the other tools on this list. For example, there’s no feature to fix the technical issues on your site to optimize all pages for LLMs.
Some of the data in SE Visible is also inaccurate. I tried to test it for my client, Vimcal, and it didn’t recognize the right competitors—like Calendly, Morgen, or Motion. Instead, it picked Google Calendar and Outlook, which is the tool Vimcal builds on top of (not replaces!).
Apart from this mishap, the remaining data was also not enough by any means. You can’t track prompts, see a prompt’s volume/popularity, or even go in-depth on sentiment analysis. And the data refreshes every seven days, which might not be fast enough for how rapidly AI search changes.
SE Ranking might only be enough if you’re looking to track basic AI visibility metrics in addition to your SEO efforts. But you’ll outgrow it if you need more data, content creation capabilities, or accuracy.
